Vicar
Dearly beloved in Christ Jesus,
During one of our Sunday worship services this month, we will be reflecting on the theme
“Holy Baptism: Uniting with Christ,” in keeping with the lectionary of the Church. This is an
opportune moment to contemplate the meaning of baptism and our vocation as baptized
Christians.
The foundation of the sacrament of baptism lies in the very command of Jesus: “Go therefore
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit…” (Matthew 28:19-20). Baptism is the sacrament of initiation into the
Christian life—the first step on our lifelong journey of discipleship. Among the many
profound meanings and implications of this sacrament, the understanding of baptism as our
participation in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ deserves prayerful reflection. As St.
Paul powerfully expresses in Romans 6:1–14, baptism signals our death to sin and a rebirth
into new life in Christ. In other words, baptism marks our turning away from a life dominated
by self-centeredness, evil, and sin, and turning toward a new life oriented around Jesus and
his message of the Kingdom of God.
Baptism is a living, daily reality and not just an event relegated to the past. Every baptized
person is called to continually live out their baptismal identity - “not to let sin exercise
dominion in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions,” but to “present yourselves
to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as
instruments of righteousness.”
To be baptized is to enter a journey of faith, in which we grow ever more deeply into our
identity in Christ. It is a call not only to union with Christ but also to fellowship with the
community of believers and to a life marked by righteousness, justice, and love. May God
enable us to fulfil our baptismal calling.

Sunday School Need and Merit Scholarship Award:
For the first time the Diocese Sunday
school is inviting nominations for the Mar Thoma Sunday schools need and merit based
scholarship awards 2025. Students who are high school graduates, class of 2025 who are
members of Mar Thoma parishes or congregations and who attend worship services and
participate in parish activities are eligible for this award. Applicants must fill out the
application form, submit necessary supporting documents, and email it to
[email protected]
in the pdf format on or before Sunday July 20, 2025. Please
note that the application form must be signed by the applicant and the parent and
verified by the Parish Vicar. Please see the notice board for the eligibility criteria and
guidelines for application.
